Right at the spot where the sea cuts deep into the European mainland, at the foot of Mount Učka (1,401 m), there is a string of eight seaside resorts which complement each other with their attractions. Emerging at the end of the 19th century as a winter resort for the upper classes, Opatija is the centre of the riviera with the longest tradition in tourism.
