Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, Pandino

The Monument, located in the center of the square Vittorio Emanuele III, was inaugurated in 1928 in occasion of the end of the First World War's tenth anniversary. It is dominated by Fredo; this is how the Pandinese named the soldier engaged in throwing a stone toward the eagle at the foot of the rock.

The monumental structure is a vertical composition created by Pietro Kufferle, defined as “the sculptor of the Tsars”. The realization of the work had a long and difficult journey that also saw the involvement of Marius Stroppa, an eclectic local artist, who signed the first project, even if it was never realized.

At the end of 2013 some Pandinese citizens began to take an interest in the necessary complete cleaning of the monument in order to be able to contemplate it for the 100th anniversary of the great war.

The Monument was the location of the set for the 2018 Oscar movie “Call Me By Your Name”.

During the shooting, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III was brought back to the 80s: the shop windows, the clothing of the extras and the cars jumped back forty years to frame one of the most poetic scenes in Luca Guadagnino's Oscar movie.

Castello Visconteo of Pandino
Leaving Vittorio Emanuele III square, you can walk along the east side of the Visconteo Castle to discover its structure.

Pandino claims one of the best preserved Visconti castles in Europe, built for the behest of Bernabò Visconti and his wife Regina della Scala starting around 1355, the building still has a large part of the original architectural structures and pictorial decorations of the XIV century, mainly representing geometric motifs alternating with the noble insignia of the Visconti and Della Scala families.

Bernabò Visconti, Lord of Milan chose this location cause was surrounded by woods, ideal for hunting. Furthermore, Bernabò Visconti preferred Pandino because, was terrified by the plague that loomed over Milan in those years, he considered Pandino the ideal place to take refuge from the disease, as it was far from the large inhabited centers of the time.

The castle has a square plan, with four square corner towers, but only the eastern ones are intact, while the western ones were demolished in the nineteenth century.

The interior is characterized by a large courtyard, surrounded on the ground floor by arcades with pointed arches, and on the upper floor by arcades with square pillars. Originally, the paintings adorned all the surfaces, including external ones, of the castle.

Via della Zecca, Pandino
Arriving at the end of the road adjacent the Visconteo Castle, you can take Via della Zecca.

This street after a first asphalted piece, becomes a dirt road and and you are catapulted into the countryside.

Fontanile del Pir, Pandino
The Pandino area is rich in springs: sources of fresh water, sometimes of natural origin but often excavated by man. The spring water maintains a constant temperature between 9 and 12 degrees in every season of the year

The “Fontanile del Pir” was recovered with a cleaning job from the waste and mud that occupied the riverbed; the banks has been repopulated with native plants such as white willow, white poplar, field maple and black alder.

Leaving the Fontanile del Pir, you can continue in the direction of the "Cascina Zecca": along these dirt roads you will discover how the peasant tradition is still a fundamental part of our economy and essential productive life of our territory.

The flat expanse of the plain is interrupted at times by the vegetation next to the waterways. The fields are mainly cultivated with corn and forage. Livestock farming and in particular the milk supply chain is the main activity of the area.

To the west of Cascina Zecca is the Zecca fountain, inserted in the depressed areas (abandoned river beds) in the Adda river basin.

Località Paladino, Rivolta d’Adda
Immersed in the green of the Rivoltana countryside stands a small building of worship, the Oratory of Santa Maria del Paladino, known as "il Paladino".

Its name comes from the fact that, between the 11th and 12th centuries, a defensive fortress stood nearby, to protect the many surrounding agricultural settlements (such as the Castello farmhouse).

The oratory, built only towards the middle of the 15th century, is dedicated to La Madonna and to St. Maurice, a warrior martyr.

The gabled structure is preceded by a porch, added towards the middle of the seventeenth century, the entrance has two large single lancet windows and a central door above which a fresco of the early sixteenth century

The interior of the oratory has a single room, divided into three spans covered with cross vaults, a small chapel is attached to the right side of the nave.

The oratory is decorated with a series of ancient frescoes, which date back to around the first half of the sixteenth century, unfortunately these come down to us very damaged. The frescoes on the vaults and veils that cover the apse date back to the early twentieth century.

Direzione NOSADELLO, Pandino
Nosadello is one of the hamlets of Pandino which is connected with a convenient cycle path.

Going along the path before the town, you can find the cemetery and, opposite, the Tinella fountain. The fountain is very pleasant and rich in vegetation, fed by 5 concrete vats.

In the square of Nosadello stands the parish church dedicated to San Pantaleone, the first attestation of a religious settlement in Nosadello dates back to the thirteenth century, when the church of Nosadello was among the ecclesiastical institutions of Lodi taxed by the papacy, where it was subject to the jurisdiction of the parish of Spino d’Adda.

The current parish church was built in 1923 to replace an older temple that has become too small to accommodate all the inhabitants of the place. The building, with a Greek cross plan and octagonal dome in the center, evokes forms belonging to different styles and eras: Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance, and retains some antique furnishings.
