Three days/two nights
Arrival in Matera and day dedicated to the visit of the city, appreciated and visited for its famous Rioni Sassi, also offers many other pearls of beauty and culture as the Cathedral of the thirteenth century, in Apulian Romanesque style, which stands imposing on the hill of Civita, the first human settlement of the city, dating back to medieval times characterized by walls and fortifications. Very interesting also the other Romanesque churches in the historical center, San Giovanni Battista and San Domenico. Along the seventeenth-century ridge of the "Piano" you can admire the civil and religious buildings of the Baroque period including the churches of San Francesco d'Assisi, Purgatory and Santa Chiara, until you reach Palazzo Lanfranchi, Museum of Medieval and Modern Art of Basilicata.
Lunch break
The afternoon will be devoted entirely to the Rioni Sassi, developed around the Civita, constitute an entire city carved into the calcarenitic rock, locally called "tuff", an articulated housing system, clinging along the slopes of a deep valley with unique and surprising natural features: the Gravina. Built structures, elegant and articulated alternate with underground labyrinths and cavernous meanders, creating a unique landscape of great effect. The overlapping of different phases of urban transformations on the original rough morphology, the refined dialogue between rocks and architecture, canyons and bell towers, has created over the centuries an urban scenario of incomparable beauty and quality. Declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1993, they superbly offer themselves to those who visit them with a unique scenery that is an exceptional reminder of the past.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Second Day

It develops around a small gulf, called Mar Piccolo, closed by two peninsulas connected by the swing bridge and on the Mar Grande where on a small island there is the Aragonese castle. The city offers architecture that testifies to its history and culture as some ancient places of worship, including the remains of the Doric Temple and the Crypt of the Redeemer, the palaces belonged to noble families as Palazzo Pantaleo and Palazzo d'Ayala Valva. In Taranto there are also numerous churches ranging from the Romanesque to the Baroque of the Cathedral of San Cataldo, from the Gothic of the Church of San Domenico Maggiore to the architecture of churches with Renaissance and neoclassical lines.
