In Marina di Maratea, along Road SS18, we are able to see one of the natural jewels Maratea offers the visitors: The Marvel Cave. The cave was discovered in the early 20’s by some employees who were building the road. While trying to pick up a hammer that had fallen down in a fissure in the rock, the employees found themselves before the breathtaking view offered by the stalactite and stalagmite falls formed by the water in a work that lasted thousands of years and that literally embroidered the internal walls of the cave. Up to then the cave had remained inaccessible and so untouched, being of particular interest for scientists. The visitor remains overwhelmed when entering the central room and facing the multi shaped and artistic calcite formations. The cave is open to the public from June to mid September, but we can visit it along the year if we call +39 333 111 9442 for reservations.
