Contemporary art at the Reggia di Venaria

The Reggia di Venaria is also a place for contemporary art to be admired along the tour and in the Gardens: a combination of ancient and modern styles in which visitors can experience the spirit of a court open to contemporary artists.

Many artists have left their mark on the Reggia, such as master Giuseppe Penone – with his remarkable Giardini delle Sculture Fluide (Gardens of Fluid Sculptures) and Anafora’ (Anaphora) in the Lower Park of the Reggia – and Giovanni Anselmo, with his installation Dove le stelle si avvicinano di una spanna in più (Where the stars come a step closer) designed for the Gran Parterre.

Along the tour, ‘Ripopolare la Reggia (Repopulating the Reggia), the multimedia installation created by director Peter Greenaway, illustrates the life at the court through the faces and voices of well-known Italian actors. Not to forget the surprising paper dresses made by Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave inspired by eighteenth-century fashion.

Least but not last, the music: composer Brian Eno proposes the sound installation ‘Music for the Great Gallery’ whilst the British composer Michael Nyman wrote the soundtrack played in the Gardens.
