Ercolano - Gateway to Vesuvius

The city territory is characterized by the double scenery, of sea and mountains that offers incredible suggestions and an enchanting landscape both in winter, when Vesuvius is whitened with snow, and in summer, when the sun reflected in the sea, that makes Capri, Ischia, Li Galli and Procida islands shine. In 1997 the Ercolano site was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The name derives from the legend of Hercoles, the mythical Greek hero who founded a small city between Naples and Pompei.

The maritime connections are guaranteed by the presence of the ancient Bourbon pier, which works in high season, which allows you to reach Sorrento and the island of Capri.

Ercolano is famous for the terrible eruption of Vesuvius on Augut 24 th A.D., this eruption buried the city in a few hours. When in 1738 King Charles of Bourbon and his wife Maria Amalia of Saxony wanted to build a new palace in Portici, a summer residence near Vesuvius, the nobles of the Court began to build extraordinary and sumptuous villas for their summer stay.
