6 days / 5 nights Adventure Tour to discover the world famous Sicilian volcanoes: Etna, Vulcano and Stromboli

Our journey begins in Catania on the east coast of Sicily from where we will depart to reach the north side of Etna, or Mongibello. This volcanological complex is the highest in Europe and reaches an altitude of 3,274 meters above sea level. It occupies an area of ​​1,265 square km with a diameter of about 40 km and a base perimeter of about 135 km. Its morphology is constantly changing due to the eruptive activities that have always occurred over the centuries.
We will continue our journey north and embark at the port of Milazzo to reach the island of Vulcano, the closest to the Sicilian coast and subsequently Stromboli, both volcanoes of the archipelago of the Aeolian islands belonging to the province of Messina.
The crater of Vulcano has an altitude of 382 meters above sea level and a diameter of about 500 meters and rises in the center of the island as a hilly formation near Porto Levante. The slope presents a landscape mixed from sandy to porous with pumice to vitreous and then obsidianic. As you go up in altitude the vegetation tends to reduce, at medium heights the typical broom grows, while near the crater the ground is completely bare.
Stromboli is the farthest island from the coast as well as one of the most active volcanoes in Europe. 926 meters above sea level, it reaches a depth ranging from 1,200 to 2,400 meters.
Its activity is explosive with the launch of continuous materials ranging from incandescent slag bombs to lapilli, from ash to real blocks, with output speeds ranging from 20 to 120 meters per second with heights ranging from a few tens to a few hundred meters. Its "Sciara del Fuoco" is famous and attracts tourists from all over the world. Its name derives from Strummulu which in dialect means spinning top, while its inhabitants are called "Iddu" (Him) as if to indicate a Supreme God. It is also called the island that breathes and mumbles due to its continuous sounds.

ITINERARY: Catania - Milazzo - Vulcano - Stromboli

1st day CATANIA

Arrival in the afternoon at Catania Airport, welcome by our staff, transfer to the hotel and accommodation in reserved rooms. Free afternoon, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

2nd day CATANIA - ETNA

Breakfast at the hotel, 08:30 am meeting with our driver and departure for Etna, the highest volcano in Europe. 09:30 am off-road ascent of a lava flow and overlooking the Valle del Bove. Continuation and visit of a lava flow cave. Technical stop at an Alpine Refuge. Trekking on the extinct craters of the Sartorius Mountains. Passage by car on the new Colata generated by the activity of Piano Provenzana in 2002. Continue to a farmhouse or alpine refuge where we will have lunch. In the afternoon, return to the hotel at around 3:30 pm via the sea-snow road until you reach the streets of Linguaglossa and Fiumefreddo. Free afternoon and evening. Free dinner. Overnight at Hotel.

3rd day CATANIA - TAORMINA - MILAZZO (Km 130)

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for a guided tour of the historic center of Catania, its famous and characteristic fish market. Tasting of the famous Sicilian granita. Departure for Taormina. Free lunch. In the afternoon we continue the journey to Milazzo. Accommodation in the hotel and free time to discover this pretty town, from the ancient village to the fishermen's beach of Santa Maria Maggiore, along the Marina Garibaldi. Free dinner. Overnight.

4th day MILAZZO - VULCANO

Breakfast at the hotel, departure by hydrofoil or ferry to the island of Vulcano (travel time about 45 min.). Transfer to the hotel, free lunch. In the early afternoon departure for the discovery of the constantly smoking volcano from whose top you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the other Aeolian islands. From here you will enjoy a wonderful sunset. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.

5th day VULCANO - STROMBOLI

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Stromboli (about 2 hours ride), the most active island-volcano in Europe. Arrival at the hotel and free time for a first discovery of the island. Free lunch. In the afternoon, about 3 hours before sunset, meeting with our expert volcanological guide of the area, collection of mandatory equipment (helmet and face mask) and departure for the climbing of the volcano on foot. The sometimes impervious path and the spectacular scenery of the Sciara del Fuoco will make this experience unique and unforgettable. There will be a packed dinner to be consumed easily. Return to the hotel scheduled for the night. Overnight.

6th day STROMBOLI - MILAZZO - CATANIA

Breakfast at the hotel, release of reserved rooms, transfer to the port of Stromboli, boarding the hydrofoil or ferry to the port of Milazzo (travel time approximately 2 hours and 40 min.). Free lunch. Transfer to the airport
