You will arrive in Recanati, a very rich in history village surrounded by the gentle hills of Marche region.

During this trip you will meet Andrea, a very young, enthusiastic and multifaceted farmer who will get you to know all the secrets of saffron cultivation.

You will also visit Recanati, the village where the famous poet Giacomo Leopardi was born and lived which has many other histories to tell.

This travel is available from mid-October to mid-November, but in the rest of the year it is possible to replace the saffron harvest experience with a culinary experience based on saffron.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITY

You will be accommodated in a little facility which is run by Edoardo and his sister Beatrice with passion.

It’s a house in the countryside with a garden and a panoramic swimming pool outside. Three rooms and several services: parking, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, air conditioning, room fridge, wi-fi and the possibility to use a shared kitchen.

TRAVEL JOURNAL

Day 1

Arrival to the accommodation facility in the early afternoon.

You will take possession of your room and you will be ready to start the discovery of the village!

Your first afternoon in Recanati starts from the “orto de L’Infinito” where you will meet Gaia, your guide.

This is the place which inspired the famous poem of Giacomo Leopardi: L’Infinito.

The visit starts with a very evocative multimedia introduction that will immerse you in the atmosphere on this place (available in Italian and English).

At the end you will go out to the vegetable garden where together with Gaia you will be surrounded by a breath-taking panorama towards the Sibillini mountains.

Later, gaia will accompany you in the village guiding you from a place to another telling you histories and anecdotes about Recanati.

You will arrive to the civic tower and rise to the top!

The walking tour will end in front of  “Casa Leopardi” the Giacomo Leopardi dwelling.

Day 2

You need to wake up non too late this morning!

After a rich breakfast prepared for you by Edoardo and Beatrice, it’s time to leave towards Andrea’s farm.

Andrea is a photographer, video maker, cook by passion, farmer and goat breeder!

From 2015 he started the transformation of his countryside house in a real farm!

You will be welcomed by an hot coffee, then you will reach the field to start immersing yourselves in the saffron harvesting!

Andrea will show the “trade secrets” and together with him the harvest will start.

Filled-up the baskets you go inside to start extracting the famous red gold from the flowers.

Together with Andrea and Mirella (his mom), you will gather all the flowers' stigmas.

Then, while the stigmas are drying, Mirella will tell you about the several possible culinary uses of the saffron giving you tips, suggestions and recipes.

During the culinary dissertation a saffron snack will be served (saffron jam and other delicious meals will be your joyful snack!).

Before leaving there’s enough time to go and discover the rest of the farm. In particular Andrea will lead you seeing his new production of microgreen and his 2 goats!

It’s now time to go, but you will remember this visit and try to put into practise the culinary tips of Mirella thanks to a little saffron jar you will get and bring home as a souvenir of this special meeting!

At mid-afternoon we will make you visit the Marche emigration museum in Recanati.

Recently renovated it is the best way to get to know the Italian rural society of the recent past.
