Su un colle, racchiusa da una cinta muraria con quattro porte, la Città Alta accoglie, al primo impatto, con un intrico di cortili nascosti, botteghe artigiane, portici e ombre lunghe.
Agli stretti vicoli medievali e all’antica Torre Civica che da 360 anni segna le 22 con cento rintocchi, rispondono imponenti e ariosi, in Piazza Vecchia, il Palazzo della Ragione e Palazzo Nuovo, e, in Città Bassa, le architetture Anni Venti di Marcello Piacentini. La città si apre al nuovo nella Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, GAMeC, che custodisce, tra l’altro, le Raccolte Spajani, Manzù e Stucchi.
Opere di Botticelli, Raffaello e Tiziano sono conservate all’interno dell’Accademia Carrara, in un palazzo in stile neoclassico in Città Bassa. All’insegna della contaminazione tra Storia e contemporaneità, è la musica a scendere in piazza, a giugno, durante la Donizetti Night dedicata al compositore che nacque, nel 1797, in un edificio fuori le mura diventato Casa Museo.
In quella notte d’inizio estate, la lirica conquista vicoli, chiostri e monumenti. Così come l’innovazione, con Bergamo Scienza, nelle prime settimane di ottobre, saluta il foliage autunnale sotto le mura e gli spazi urbani. La città si trasforma così in un laboratorio scientifico a cielo aperto. Accogliendo la luce e l’aria fresca delle Prealpi.

On a warm summer evening in June, mixing both past and present, the Donizetti Night brings music to the streets among the alleys, cloisters, and monuments. Celebrate the composer born in 1797 and don’t forget to pass by his birth home located outside the walls of Città Alta, which has been transformed into a house museum.
While the arts flourish, so do the sciences, with Bergamo Scienza. The first weeks of October welcome the autumn foliage under the great walls, transforming urban spaces into an open-air scientific laboratory. A sparkling city with two souls.
