Morning rendezvous with the nature guide at Fonte Avellana’s camaldolese hermitage: from the Medieval era, it hosts stories of faithful men and is the starting point of the excursion to Mount Catria’s peak. The beech-wood, that still shows traces of the coalmen’s work areas, will be walked through.
Arrival at Catria’s meadows and prosecution towards the peak, welcomed by the majestic Cross (commissioned by Pope Leone XIII for the Jubilee of 1900) and by a breathtaking view from Tyrrhenian Sea to Adriatic Sea. Brief, contemplative stop and return.
Packed lunch or lunch at the shelter located at 1400 meters.
Return to the starting point in the late afternoon and visit, guided by the friars, of the botanical garden, the libraries, the archives and the most hidden parts of the hermitage.
With prior reservation it will be possible to dine at the Peregrine canteen, a refectory of 1200, with traditional Marche’s dishes made with raw materials grown and produced by the friars.
