The cradle of civilization 
The territory marked by the path of Tigris and Euphrates of scholastic memory has its northernmost part in Turkey, where the two rivers have their source. 

Diyarbakır, surrounded by the surrounding basalt walls; Mardin, arabesque in the rock where Aramaic is still spoken; and Şanlıurfa, linked to the story of Abraham, sacred to the three great monotheistic religions; are the largest cities in this area. 
Each of them has a different character; they offer bazaars, churches, monuments, flies and above all some of the most interesting sites, considered World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, and some of the museums, recently renovated with current and modern criteria, most important to the world. Furthermore, their surroundings are dotted with small villages inhabited by ethnic and religious minorities, natural glimpses, less famous but equally important archaeological sites, which make a holiday here a unique trip. 

Ideal to see this area without running are 8 or 9 days, but if we also want to add Gaziantep, to visit for the largest mosaic museum in the world as well as for its gastronomic specialties; Antakya, which lines up churches, synagogues and mosques; or Mount Nemrut with the Sanctuary of Antiochus I of Commagene and Malatya, the city of apricots, it is necessary to add another 2 or 3 days. As you know by now if you have come this far and if you have noticed the name of my site, I appreciate the calm and the trips made in tranquility, but I would not disdain a trip made even just to visit the site of Göbekli Tepe and above all the Archaeological Museum of Şanlıurfa , the most engaging museum I have seen in the last thirty years of travel. 

Since I visited it shortly after the inauguration, I have often organized, to the great satisfaction of the participants, "A weekend in Mesopotamia" even if it takes two flights to reach it. By stopping at Malatya and Mount Nemrut you can connect Mesopotamia to Cappadocia or to two other UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Divriğı and Ḫattuša to meet the Hittite civilization, concluding, or better still starting from Ankara and its Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.
