Day dedicated to visiting the city of Matera. Appreciated and visited for its famous Sassi districts, it also offers many other pearls of beauty and culture such as the 13th century Cathedral, in Apulian Romanesque style, Palazzo Lanfranchi and the Museum of Medieval and Modern Art of Basilicata. Stop for lunch in a typical restaurant of the central quarter.

The afternoon will be dedicated entirely to the Rioni Sassi. Developed around the Civita, they constitute an entire city carved into the limestone rock, locally called "tuff". An articulated system, perched along the slopes of a deep valley with unique and surprising natural characteristics: the Gravina. Here housing structures alternate with underground labyrinths and cavernous meanders, creating a unique landscape of great effect. The overlapping of different phases of urban transformations on the rugged original morphology, the refined dialogue between rocks and architecture, canyons and bell towers, has created over the centuries a unique scenario of incomparable beauty. In 1993 they were declared a "World Heritage Site" by Unesco.
