Cernobbio is the first town on the western branch of Lake Como coming from Como; it is an historic tourist destination and a starting point to explore the Lake.
The historic center is developed around Piazza Risorgimento, known as the "Riva", a large circular space overlooking the lake, where there is a Lido, the dock, the Art Nouveau landing stage where the services of Navigation dock, as well as a few monuments, elegant hotels and historic cafes. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view from Como to Torno and towards the Upper Lake; you can see several fascinating villas, including Villa Erba and Villa d'Este. Strolling through the alleys, you will discover the medieval Piazza Castello, the Church of San Vincenzo, with its baroque facade, until you reach Piazza Belinzaghi with the frescoed map of the Lario.
Reachable from the center with a short walk are Villa Bernasconi, the only Villa in Cernobbio open to public thanks to its Museum, and the "Garden of the Valley", a public botanical garden.
