"In Liguria" - Regional Tourism Board

ABOUT US

The Regional Agency for the tourism promotion “in Liguria” promotes Liguria as an international tourist “all season” destination, which can be appreciated by tourists and travelers from all over the world. The unique geography of Liguria nestled between mountains and sea and the combination of culture, nature and history means Liguria can be appreciated for its entertainment, gastronomic heritage and opportunities for sport and outdoor life. Liguria is loved thanks to its always cleaner seas. It is consistently been awarded up to 32 Blue Flags by the Foundation for Environmental Education, remaining the leading region in Italy for clean water and beaches. Our shores, characterized by sandy beaches and beautiful rocky cliffs such as those of the Cinque Terre, continue to represent our point of strength for tourism. This is not only thanks to the beauty of the landscape and services offered to beach-goers, but also for the uniqueness of its locations. We have plenty of seaside villages to be discovered also in terms of historical, artistic and architectural marvels. In addition to the Cinque Terre, which is a Unesco heritage site area, we have Portovenere, Lerici, Sestri Levante, Portofino, and Camogli, as well as the Genoa-area villages of Boccadasse, Varazze, Celle Ligure, Finale, Pietra Ligure, Alassio, and Bordighera. Of course, there is also the extreme beauty of the city of Genoa itself, a city that in the last few years has become an important capital for its art-rich heritage, one of the most loved art cities by tourists thanks to its historical center, the exhibitions at Palazzo Ducale, Rolli Palaces that are part of the Unesco heritage sites, the Genoa Aquarium and major art masterpieces hosted in the city museums (featuring works by Caravaggio, Rubens, and Van Dyck) that attract tourists and an increasingly higher number of cruises to the port of Genoa. The territory of the region deserves a special mention: Liguria is a local paradise for trekking or mountain bike fans, as well as a treasure trove for those who love nature and the many medieval villages that dot our four provinces. 60 thousand hectares of parks and nature reserves such as the Cinque Terre National Park, the Natural Regional Parks of Montemarcello-Magra, Porto Venere, Aveto, Portofino, Antola, Beigua, Bric Tana, Piana Crixia and Alpi Liguri create the perfect environment for excursions and walks to discover woods, hidden valleys and towns where the locals still practice traditional activities to teach people about ecological and sustainable tourism. Furthermore if you love to discover and enjoy wine-and-food, Liguria is a true marvel for it with many products that are unique in the world, such as our PDO extra-virgin olive oil, Genovese Pesto, PGI Recco cheese focaccia, Santa Margherita and Sanremo giant prawns, and the famous Sciacchetrà, a liquor-wine from Cinque Terre along with the approximately twenty PDO wines of the region. And, of course, in every corner of our region there is a unique recipe to discover and enjoy.
