The great Falo on Christmas Eve

The Luminaria is a large bonfire that is lit on the afternoon of Christmas Eve in the central Piazza Mazzini of Isnello,. For two centuries, the large pile of large oak stumps and trunks, collected in the woods by the men and children of the village, has been arranged and lit at around 18.00 to the sound of the bagpipers. The fire, for several hours, warms the people who remain in the square before and after the Mass of the Midnight Vigil, for the exchange of Christmas greetings. Throughout the night, the traditional Luminaria burns in the center of the square, creating a unique and suggestive atmosphere. The birth of the Child Jesus is awaited by tasting the "horns", typical biscuits filled with dried fruit, nougats, cooked wine and other typical products of the local culinary tradition. After the Vigil, all the participants conclude the convivial moment with an auspicious toast. The whole community, year after year, keeps this tradition alive, a special Christmas Eve in the village suspended between stars and nature.
